Santa Barbara's Mayor Marty Blum
Marty Blum, who served two terms on the the Santa Barbara City Council before being elected Mayor, has a long record of public service in the community. She is a former President of the Santa Barbara Teachers Association where she received an award from the California Teachers Association for dedication to the teaching profession. She is currently on the Steering Committee of Fighting Back as well as the boards of Partners in Education, the Homeless Day Center, and Sarah House.

Her civic involvement has included six years on the City Planning Commission, the founding board of the Women's Political Commmittee, and president of the following: League of Women Voters, Public Education Fund, Oaks Parent Child Workshop, Monroe School PTA, and the Tri-County Task Force on the Environment.

Born in Illinois, Marty met her husband, Joe, at Purdue University. They were married on graduation day, 1964. They settled in Santa Barbara in 1968 when Marty began her teaching and community volunteer work.

In 1976 Marty returned to school, earning a JD degree from Loyola University and practiced law in Santa Barbara, first with Legal Aid then in private practice. Joe and Marty have three grown children, Cheri, Rick, and Ryan. Joe is a physician with the Veterans Administration Clinic.
